Alty hit the CSC trail - here's your match preview

By Joe Brayne

Altrincham start their Cheshire Senior Cup campaign this Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off) at The J.Davison Stadium, hosting 1874 Northwich in the first round.

Last year, the Robins made an impressive run to the cup final, securing victories against Vauxhall Motors and Runcorn Linnets along the way. An injury-ridden side fell just short in the final, however, losing in the penalty shoot-out to Congleton Town.

Due to the demands of the long away fixture to Gateshead in Saturday’s Vanarama National League match, a rotated squad is expected to take the field on Tuesday. In addition, Danny Jarrett and Ross Speight will be in charge of the team for this game.

Goals from Justin Amaluzor and Justin Donawa in the second half extended Alty's winning streak in the league to five consecutive matches, propelling them to fourth place in the table.

Despite the need for squad rotation, Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson is enthusiastic about the frequent games, recognising their importance in maintaining the team's excellent form - especially with an eagerly-anticipated Emirates FA Cup clash against Oldham on the horizon.

About the Opposition

Fan-owned club 1874 Northwich will approach Tuesday's fixture brimming with confidence after a convincing 2-0 league victory over Vauxhall Motors last Saturday.

The Greens won the Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup in consecutive years between 2015 and 2017, as well as having given a strong Altrincham side a run for their money in the competition back in 2018.

Under the dual management of Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison, the '74 have found success in the top-half of the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division West.

One player to keep an eye on is 23-year-old defender Matthew Fenton. A product of the Crewe Alexandra Academy, Fenton has notched eight goals over two seasons with 1874 Northwich, using his physical presence to great effect during set-pieces.
