Cata cracker seals it for Robins
Altrincham Reserves 2 Denton 1
Altrincham won the coin toss and decided to kick off in a game they believed they had a great chance of winning.
Both teams started slowly and struggled to retain the ball in the opening 10 minutes, though Altrincham soon began to get a grip of proceedings as they started creating chances.
Roughly 25 minutes in, Altrincham won a free-kick on the halfway line and switched it quickly from right-back to left-back, catching the Denton team napping.
Powell played the ball to Cata on the left wing, and, after beating his man with ease, he drilled the ball across goal to leave Howells with an open net at the back post.
Following this goal, the Robins continued to create chance upon chance, but they were pegged back in controversial circumstances at the end of the first half.
Denton played a ball in behind which the Alty keeper latched on to, only for it to be kicked out his hands and tapped into the net. To the Robins' dismay, the goal was somehow allowed to stand.
Once the second half got underway, it was more of the same, with the Robins creating a hatful of chances and the Denton goalkeeper making numerous exceptional saves.
It was only a matter of time before the lead was restored, and Alty were good value for what proved the winner 10 minutes from the end.
Cata cut into the box from the right and again beat his man with ease before whipping the ball into the far left corner to seal a deserved victory.
