Welcome to Alty, Regan Griffiths!
Words John Edwards
Phil Parkinson has added Football League experience to Altrincham's midfield options after snapping up Crewe Alexandra Academy graduate Regan Griffiths on a free transfer.
It's a timely acquisition for the Robins boss, with Regan eligible for not only our Vanarama National League promotion push but also tonight's National League Cup group game with Wolves under-21s and Saturday's Isuzu FA Trophy tie with Eastleigh.
Both matches are at The J.Davidson Stadium, with Alty looking to progress to the NL Cup knock-out stages tonight (kick-off 7.30pm) and seeking a place in the Trophy quarter-finals at Eastleigh's expense on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
Regan will be looking to play a role in both parts of our cup double-header after completing his move to The J.Davidson Stadium and underlining his fitness and sharpness in training with his new Alty team-mates, where he took time out to be photographed in a Robins tracksuit top.
Born in Huyton, the 24-year old has built a reputation as an all-round central midfielder, technically accomplished with a wide range of passing and also a strong physical presence, after working his way through the junior ranks at Gresty Road and making his mark in the first team.
Invited into their Academy at the age of nine, he made his senior Crewe debut in an EFL Trophy tie against Shrewsbury in November 2020 and his first appearance in League One away to Portsmouth a few days later.
The following March, he joined Notts County on loan for the rest of that season, making his debut in a 1-0 win over Wrexham and clocking up 12 appearances as the Magpies reached the National League play-offs, only to lose in the semi-finals.
He earned himself two senior contracts in his time with Crewe and had amassed 52 first-team appearances by the time he left almost exactly a year ago, after over a decade at Gresty Road.
Kidderminster Harriers signed him almost immediately, but, after they were relegated at the end of last season, he was on the move again, spending the first half of the current campaign with National League North Marine, prior to Alty boss Phil adding him to the Robins squad as a free agent.
A warm welcome to The J.Davidson Stadium, Regan, and here's wishing you every success in Alty colours.
