Robins on the road again for second warm-up game

By Joe Brayne

Altrincham travel to Broadhurst Park on Tuesday as we face FC United of Manchester in our second pre-season game ahead of the 2023-24 campaign (7.45pm kick-off).

Robins striker Regan Linney is no stranger to the Moston-based side after making a significant impact for them in the Pitching In Northern Premier League last season, finding the back of the net 25 times in just 33 games prior to joining Alty in February.

Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat against Lancaster City on Saturday, there were plenty of encouraging signs for Alty. Phil Parkinson was able to play two separate XIs at The Giant Axe, allowing most of our summer signings and Academy prospects to earn valuable minutes on a competitive stage.

Of particular note was the return of Matty Kosylo, who impressed in his comeback after a season-long knee injury.

About the Opposition

FC United fell to a 2-0 defeat against EFL side Barrow last Saturday in their pre-season opener. The Northern Premier League side held their own for 70 minutes at Broadhurst Park before conceding a late brace from Tyrell Warren.

The Reds have registered successive top-half finishes in the NPL and look set to
challenge for a return to the Vanarama National League North in the upcoming season.

In the absence of Linney’s firepower, midfielder Paul Ennis stepped up to the mark with an impressive 11 goals last season. Now entering his fifth season with the club, the 33-year-old is a player to watch out for on Tuesday evening.

Another exciting prospect in FC United's ranks is 23-year-old forward Max Cane. A product of the Clitheroe Academy, Cane joined FC United towards the end of last season and made an immediate impact, netting eight goals in just 12 games.
