Lucas heads for promotion-chasing Chorley on loan

Lucas Weaver is joining Chorley on loan in a move designed to give him valuable match action at a level that will prove beneficial to his development.

The 23-year old winger will be with the promotion-chasing Magpies for the rest of the calendar year and is likely to be in the thick of their quest for Enterprise National League North points from the off, as they travel to Buxton tomorrow (Saturday) and struggling Southport on Tuesday evening.

Andy Preece's side are once more up among the leading contenders for promotion to the National League in fifth place, and Alty boss Phil Parkinson firmly believes his lightning-quick outside-right will be all the better for his experience at Victory Park.

"It's a brilliant loan for Lucas," said Phil. "He can go and recapture some of the form he showed previously. He can go and get his confidence up, and his fitness as well, and be ready to go again for us when called upon."

Lucas, who signed a new contract with Alty in February this year, was snapped up in May 2024 at the end of a season in which he scored a remarkable 42 goals in 43 games for Colne.

His rich potential was apparent during a handful of appearances for the Robins last season, and it was felt a temporary move to a side at the top end of the division immediately below us would be conducive to his overall game continuing to progress along the right lines.

Good luck at Victory Park, Lucas, and here's hoping you can help keep the Magpies on track in their latest push for promotion.
