Gateshead vs Altrincham match preview

Words by Joe Ward

Alty are back on the road in the Vanarama National League tonight when we make the journey to Gateshead FC for our second successive away fixture (7:45pm kick-off).

The Robins approach the clash off the back of a 3-1 loss to second in the league Notts County last Saturday.

Despite the result, Phil Parkinson can take plenty of positives from a gallant performance which saw Alty measure up well against a promotion chasing side, creating several golden opportunities which resulted in Marcus Dinanga’s first goal of the season.

Alternatively, Gateshead go into the game following a 1-1 draw at home against Eastleigh on Saturday, cementing our hosts in a 16th place in the table ahead of our fixture tonight.

Managers Views

In a post-match interview with AltyTV, manager Phil Parkinson gave his views following our 3-1 defeat to Notts County.

About The Opposition

The Tynesiders are one of five newcomers to the National League this season after winning the National League North last term to get promoted.

Alty were knocked out of the FA Cup last season by the Heed and we have been drawn together once again for a fourth time in the competition.

This season, manager Mike Williamson and his team have adapted well to life back in the National League, picking up points off the likes of Notts County and Boreham Wood to give them a satisfactory start to the new campaign.

Despite their success in the National League North last season, this summer saw the departure of two key players. Macaulay Langstaff and Cedwyn Scott, who both left for Notts County, scored a combined total of 54 goals last season leaving Gateshead with little time to replace such talent before August.

However, forwards Adam Campbell and Paul Blackett have somewhat stepped up to the mark, scoring four goals each in their opening ten games. The two will surely look to trouble the Alty defence tonight in what will be a great opportunity for us to get back to winning ways before our home clash with Dorking on Saturday.
