Alty defeat South Liverpool to set up Radcliffe tie
Altrincham u18s 4 South Liverpool u18s 0
Altrincham cruised into the final round of qualifying in the FA Youth Cup with a composed performance against South Liverpool at The J.Davidson Stadium
The first half chance of the game fell to winger Isaac Mannion, whose improvised flick from Harry Watson's cross forced South Liverpool goalkeeper Oliver Bate into a routine save.
The visitors gave as good as they got as the first half progressed, and Max Beddow had to be alert to deny skipper Josh Whewell from a tight angle.
Despite that bit of pressure, Alty pushed back and took the lead on 23 minutes. Bate's clearance was short and intercepted, allowing Raion Rowe to half volley home a beautiful finish from 20 yards.
A decent chance then came and went for Joe Weston, who volleyed wide before the break, as Alty started to ramp up their efforts to find a second.
After a low key opening to the second half the Robins all-but put the game to bed on 64 minutes when substitute Harley Renshaw capitalised on a mistake by Bate to tap home and double the lead.
South Liverpool showed some life as time ticked down, especially when Alty captain Max Beddow was forced into four great saves within the space of 20 seconds, preserving his clean sheet in some style.
The third goal of the evening came from Noah Lavin on 82 minutes, a cute finish from close in, allowing Alty extra breathing space.
Renshaw then added a fourth in stoppage time to put the exclamation point on an evening where Paul Fay's Robins full deserved to progress.
