Head of Foundation, Simon Dow, on his team's 24-mile Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

For this year's fundraising challenge, the Alty FC Foundation team decided to push themselves a little further to raise money for the programmes we deliver across Altrincham and Trafford.

After some research, we settled on taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge – a gruelling 24-mile route featuring over 1,500 metres of ascent across Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. It was certainly going to be a tough test, but one that everyone was excited to tackle.

Following practice walks and plenty of fundraising appeals, we set off at 6am on Friday July 17th, ready for the challenge ahead.

After a tough opening climb, we reached our first summit by 7:30am. Following a few well-earned photo opportunities, we headed back down before making our way towards the second peak of the day.

The climb became even more demanding as the sun came out in full force, with the heat taking its toll on the team. Despite the steep ascent, the incredible views from the top made every step worthwhile. After a quick refuel, more photos and a well-earned break, we set off on the eight-mile journey to our final mountain.

The final climb was by far the toughest of the day. After eight hours on our feet and with the heat continuing to sap our energy, every step became more difficult. However, we stuck together, encouraged one another and made sure everyone reached the summit. The sense of achievement was incredible – made even more special by the news that we had reached our initial fundraising target as we made our way to the top.

The descent was just as challenging on our tired legs, and the sight of the cars waiting for us at the finish was a welcome one!

Completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge was a fantastic achievement for Grahame, Dan, Mattie, Abbie, William, Marc and Simon. Although exhausted, we were all incredibly proud to have completed the challenge and, most importantly, to have raised vital funds to support the amazing programmes delivered by the Alty FC Foundation.
