Altrincham v Dorking Wanderers match preview

Words by Joe Ward

Alty are back at The J.Davidson Stadium this Saturday when we host Dorking Wanderers in the Vanarama National League (3pm kick-off).

The Robins produced a great reaction to the tough defeat at Notts County and conceding early with a first away win of the season over Gateshead on Tuesday night.

Marcus Dinanga made it two goals in two games with a rocket of a shot from just outside the 18-yard box to put Alty 2-1 up in the first half. That came after Chris Conn-Clarke had levelled things up. Dan Malone then sealed the deal with a goal deep into the second to round off a much-deserved victory for The Robins.

Phil Parkinson’s can now go into Saturday’s game with a bit of momentum as we return home after back-to-back away matches and having played seven of our opening 12 league matches away.

Our opponents, Dorking Wanderers, head into the game in good form themselves following a recent 5-1 thrashing over Dagenham & Redbridge last Saturday and a 1-1 draw at home to Yeovil Town on Tuesday night.

Managers Views

In a post-match interview with Brian Flynn, manager Phil Parkinson gave his views on Altrincham’s 3-1 victory away at Gateshead and the importance of Saturday’s fixture.

About The Opposition

Dorking Wanderers, who currently sit 10th-place in the league table, are yet another one of this season’s newcomers after gaining promotion in the final of the National League South play-off after beating Ebbsfleet United 3-2.

The win earnt The Wanderers their first ever promotion to the National League, increasing their British record to 12 promotions in 23 years since the club’s formation.

Manager, Owner and Chairman, Marc White also led the club to their first Surrey Senior Cup last season to round off a hugely successful campaign for the Surrey-based side.

Fast-forward 12 games into their maiden voyage and The Wanderers have started well, winning five of their opening games, beating league leaders Notts County less than three weeks ago.

Despite their recent away form, which has seen them lose two of their last three, Alty will have to keep a keen eye on central midfielder James McShane who has scored ten goals in twelve games. The 32-year-old is second only to Macauly Langstaff in the goal scoring charts and will surely look to cause us trouble when him and his side travel up north this weekend to The J.Davidson Stadium.
