Altrincham U18 4-0 Wythenshawe Amateurs U18 match report

Altrincham FC u18s faced Wythenshawe Amateurs u18s on Sunday afternoon, in hope to give the young Robins their third win from their opening three games this season.

Altrincham started positively controlling the majority of possession, finding joy down the flanks in Loui Williams and Tom Jones, against a high press from the Amateurs side.

After 20 minutes, the Robins opened the scoring as Tom Jones carried the ball down the right side, using a clever piece of skill to get a cross into the front post where Adam Lynch was there to fire in his first of the day.

The midfield three of Chambers, German and Comber enabled Alty to continue dictating play switching the ball from side to side and battling hard against the opposition out of possession.

The Robins’ majority share of possession was not to say the back four weren’t kept on their toes, as the line stayed solid dealing with the long ball and keeping the Wythenshawe attackers from troubling the keeper.

Altrincham started to go up the gears, applying more and more pressure on the opposition. Another goal came when Jones played German the ball out wide, who found a space for Lynch to attack with a great cross. The goal was slightly delayed by the keeper who managed stop the ball dead a yard from goal but Lynch reacted quickly to ensure his second was not denied.

The Altrincham attack didn’t stop there, when Williams used his pace to drive into space on the left wing, a smart cut back which found Chambers, who buried it with his first touch around the penalty spot.

Sheriff Njie was brought to action from the bench before half time as Tom Jones was forced off injured.

With the half coming to an end, Alty refused to take their foot off the gas looking to increase the steep score line.

Alty carried on exploiting the advantage they had down the wings, Chambers clipped a ball into space which saw Williams shoulder to shoulder on the by-line with the goalkeeper. Williams came out with the ball and played a pass towards Lynch in the box, who struck it past the recovering keeper to claim his first half hat-trick.

With the Altrincham u18s up by four at half-time, the boys needed to stay focused and keep a much-desired clean sheet.

The young Robins continued to put pressure on the Wythenshawe players in order to disrupt their attempts of going forward. Still enjoying lots of possession the boys didn’t quite manage to make any clear cut chances however this wouldn’t deter them from linking up well with one and other.

At different times during the half, Chambers, McGeady, Lynch and Murphy made way for the following substitutions to reinforce the team with fresh legs: Kelly, Bonney-Phillips, Behan and Majzoub.

The Amateurs began to pile on pressure during the last 20 minutes looking for a conciliation goal, where credit is due to the back four who had an answer for everything the opposition attempted, including a lifeline from Evans who cleared the ball off the line to save the clean sheet.

The young Robins had seen the 4-0 lead out till the end in a hard-fought victory which gives the team all 6 possible points in the league along with 2 clean sheets.
