Dabbers first up for Altrincham FC Women
Words Brian Flynn
Altrincham FC Women start life in a new division on Sunday, following promotion from the Cheshire League Premier Division.
Daryll Abrahams takes charge of his first competitive fixture, as the Robins face a tough trip to take on Nantwich Town FC Women at the Swansway Stadium. Abrahams was appointed in April but started his new role as manager on July 1st.
The Dabbers were automatically promoted as Cheshire League Premier Division champions and were subsequently joined by runners-up, AFC Crewe and Altrincham, who finished 3rd , both also promoted to the North-West Women’s Regional League, Division 1 South.
Duncan Jones, Head of Women’s Football, led Altrincham FC Women to their first trophy in May, defeating Witton Albion 3-2 in a pulsating Cheshire League Challenge Cup Final.
That game was played at the Swansway Stadium, a neutral venue, and as Alty had won through to the final by beating Sunday’s opponents at Nantwich in the semi-final in their penultimate game of the season, Sunday’s game will be the 3rd successive game played by Altrincham FC Women at Nantwich’s impressive facility.
Alty were the only side to beat Nantwich on their own ground last season in that memorable semi-final, but The Dabbers did the double in the league, winning 5-2 at
Partington Sports Village in September and 4-3 in a thrilling encounter on their home
patch in December.
