Alty reserves take point against Winstanley Warriors
Altrincham Reserves 2 Winstanley Warriors 2
AFTER winning just one out of their last three fixtures, the Robins were looking to return to winning ways after a disappointing Christmas period.
Frantic and unsettled, the two teams spent the opening phase of the game coming to terms with the pitch. Altrincham began to dominate possession, as they seemed to adapt to the difficult conditions better than their opposition, but the stubborn Winstanley defence kept the hosts quiet.
Five minutes before the half-time interval, however, Alty were able to overcome the Winstanley defence and open the scoring. A great run from George Raftery allowed him to get to the by-line, where he delivered a low cross into the middle. It was placed perfectly into the path of Fin Ryan, who tapped the ball into an empty net.
The second half continued in the same fashion as the first. Altrincham were in control of the game, but an obstacle was thrown their way on the hour mark. Winstanley converted a penalty awarded to them, and the game was now level at 1-1.
Altrincham responded well to the setback, quickly regaining the lead of the match. Tayo Tek produced a magnificent through ball to Raftery, and the Altrincham danger-man powered forward. The forward struck an effort towards goal, and a wicked deflection saw it fly into the back of the net.
Moments later, however, a mistake from Altrincham allowed the visitors to draw level once again. The Robins pushed hard for a win as the game moved to a close, but they were unable to find the winning goal despite the best efforts of the team. It was a strong performance from Altrincham, but the points were shared.
