ISAAC Marriott had extra cause for celebrating last night after earning his first-ever England C call-up.

Altrincham's vice-captain, skipper in the absence of injured James Jones, was his usual dynamic self as he drove the Robins on to a much-needed 2-1 victory over Dorking Wanderers at The J.Davidson Stadium.

As he caught his breath in the changing room afterwards, he was told that his sterling efforts in a memorable season so far had been recognised at international level with a place in the England C squad to face Wales in a friendly on Tuesday March 19th.

What an honour for the energetic, inspirational Alty midfielder, and everyone at club will be hoping his name is in the starting line-up when the team sheet goes up at Llanelli FC a week next Tuesday.

One of the most successful signings of Phil Parkinson's entire reign, after being snapped up from Bradford (Park Avenue) on Christmas Eve 2021, the 24-year old was already on a high after again playing an integral role in putting the Robins' play-off push back on track in front of 2,000 appreciative Alty fans.

The prospect of pulling on an England shirt for the first time added an extra layer of satisfaction to another great night's work, as he reflected on being named in a 16-man squad.

"It's a huge honour to be called up for my country, and it put the seal on what was already a fantastic effort by everyone, the fans included, to get over the line against Dorking and secure a vital win," he said. "I’m buzzing to be part of an England squad, and I’m so pleased that all the hard work I've put in has been recognised.

"It will be a proud moment pulling on an England shirt, and I’m looking forward to the chance to show everyone what I’m capable of!"

Alty boss Phil added his congratulations by saying: "What an amazing achievement for Isaac to be selected for England C. It's a very proud moment for him, his family and the football club. He’s improved immeasurably since joining us, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting reward for his professionalism and dedication.

"He’s picked up the captaincy from James this season and never looked back. A true leader in the making - well done skipper!"

All Alty eyes will be on Llanelli's Stebonheath Park stadium on Tuesday the 19th, in the hope of seeing our on-field leader step out in the starting line-up and unleash his tireless zest and energy on the Wales midfield. All the best for your first England cap, Isaac, and here's hoping it's the first of many.
