No foiling Alty youngsters as they hit the ground running at Foyle Cup
Altrincham's youngsters have wasted no time making their mark on the Foyle Cup after flying over to Derry to take part in the tournament.
It's the sixth year that the club have been represented at this prestigious event, and, on this occasion, we have entered both an under-12s team and a squad of under-15s to under-17s.
It is always a great experience for all the players, both on and off the field, and the opening round of fixtures could scarcely have gone any better for either side. The u-12s announced their arrival in their group with a fantastic performance in their first-ever competitive 11v11 game, taking on Rosario on a hot sunny afternoon and running out convincing 4-0 winners. The goals came from Dexter Francis, Billy Sweeny, Louie Skelton and Callum Meppem, but credit to all the boys for doing the club proud in such impressive style.
In the under-17s section, Alty beat St Patrick’s Castlederg with an equally strong performance, keeping possession well and playing through the thirds to rack up an 8-0 scoreline. Again, every member of the team played his part, with the goals being shared between Loui Williams (2), Adam Lynch (2), Tom Jones (2), JJ Kelly and George Raftery.
Watch out for more updates here on the club's website as the tournament continues.
