Dagenham & Redbridge vs Altrincham match preview

Words by Joe Ward

Alty are back on the road in the Vanarama National League on Saturday as we travel to Victoria Road to face 17th-placed Dagenham & Redbridge (3pm kick-off).

The Robins will look to build on a passionate performance last time out against Scunthorpe United as Ryan Colclough salvaged a deserved point for Alty with a late leveller on a dramatic evening of football.

The 2-2 draw means Parkinson’s men are still in search of that first win of the season. However, three points on Saturday would see us climb above our competitors.

Dagenham & Redbridge pose a lot of threat in attack, with forwards Paul McCallum and Junior Morias already totalling seven goals between each other this season. With several injuries in defence – Yoan Zouma the latest to pick up a nasty neck injury - the Daggers go into Saturday off the back of two heavy defeats, losing 5-0 to Notts County and 4-1 to Wrexham respectively.

About The Opposition

Dagenham finished just one point off a National League play-off position last season with the fifth highest number of goals scored. However, the Daggers have started this season much slower and currently sit in 17th place.

Manager Daryl McMahon was appointed by the Daggers within 24 hours of leaving Macclesfield back in January 2020. The season was suspended in March but the following campaign he led them to 12th place, which the club saw as evidence he was the right man for the job. He later proved that winning two Manager of the Month awards, one of them after a 100% record during the month of December 2021.

Last week, saw the signing of Defender Kamarl Grant from Millwall who made his debut on a tough night in Wrexham on Tuesday. Dagenham lost 4-1, albeit to an ambitious promotion chasing side, and later confirmed that Yoan Zouma would be added to the growing list of injured defenders as he was taken to hospital following an aerial challenge.

Dagenham’s defensive problems will surely be a target for Phil Parkinson and his coaching staff, however, Alty will need to keep a close eye on forward Junior Morias who continued his fine goalscoring form with a consolation goal against Wrexham. He is the Daggers top scorer so far this season with four goals in eight games.

Another one to watch will be last season's top scorer Paul McCallum, who also got himself off to a respectable start this season in front of goal. The striker finished on 18 goals last campaign and will be looking to stop Alty from getting those first elusive three points on Saturday.
