Altrincham vs Barnet match preview

Words by Joe Ward

Alty are looking to bounce back from last Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Wealdstone when we return to The J.Davidson Stadium to take on Barnet in the Vanarama National League on Tuesday evening (7:45pm kick-off).

It was a frustrating end to the Robins’ last game as manager Phil Parkinson was left to reflect on some questionable decisions and missed opportunities that ultimately cost us the game.

Nonetheless, the lads must now pick themselves up as we re-direct our attention towards 10th-placed Barnet.

There was disappointment for the Bees in their last league game, losing 3-0 at home to Southend Utd. And the misfortune continued on Saturday as they were forced into a first-round replay in the FA Cup thanks to a stoppage-time leveller from Chelmsford City in a 1-1 draw at the Hive Stadium.

Managers Views

In a post-match interview with AltyTV, manager Phil Parkinson gave his views following our 1-0 defeat at home to Wealdstone last Tuesday night.

About The Opposition

Barnet were relegated to the National League in 2018 following a three-season spell in League Two. During the 2020/21 season the club recorded their lowest league position for many years finishing in 22nd place. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the season was abandoned, and they were saved from dropping into the National League South.

Since then, it’s been much more promising for the Bees who have made a good start to the new campaign and currently sit just three points away from a play-off position.

Manager Dean Brennan will be hoping his side can return to winning ways on Tuesday following a loss to Southend Utd in their last league game. Just a few days before that Barnet were also held to a surprising draw at home to struggling Scunthorpe United.

Nevertheless, it's safe to say Brennan and his boys are up for the challenge, saying in a recent post-match interview: “We’re looking forward to it, we go to Altrincham on Tuesday and Oldham on Saturday, so it’s exciting.”

Forward, Nicke Kabamba will be looking to extend his tally of ten goals so far this term when he and his teammates travel up to Moss Lane on Tuesday. However, with a handful of absentees and injuries in defence, Barnet might struggle to contend with an Alty side who are as hungry as ever to win in front of their fans and push our way up the table.
