Altrincham FC is actively expanding the profile of the women’s football team.
Having previously been part of Altrincham FC Community Sports, the official charity of Altrincham FC, the women’s team is now moving under the umbrella of the football club, alongside the men’s first team, reserve team and academy.
Duncan Jones has been appointed as Head of Women’s Football and will be overseeing the development and evolution of Altrincham FC Women.
Duncan has been involved with both Altrincham FC Juniors and the women’s first team for many years and is currently managing the women’s first team through one of its most successful seasons, having finished 3rd in The Cheshire Women’s & Youth Football League, Premier Division & progressed to the League Challenge Cup semi-final.
"There has never been a better time to support the growth and opportunities within the women's game," said CEO Sam Mackenzie. "What does football look like for young girls and women in the Altrincham area with Altrincham Football Club? It's joining us at age three and playing right the way through our juniors and into the women's first team.
"We have worked hard with our Community, Juniors, and in particular Duncan and Marjorie Murphy to deliver an outstanding pathway. I thank Altrincham FC Community Sports for all the hard work that has gone into our women's section to date. Come on you Robins."
Duncan (pictured above) is tasked with implementing the Alty vision for the women’s team. Altrincham FC Juniors already have the largest girls football setup in the North West and are widely regarded as a role model club for promoting girls’ football and talent development,
which will provide significant player-pathway opportunities to support the progression of
Altrincham FC Women, in the short, medium and long-term.
"I am really looking forward to pushing the Altrincham FC Women's programme to the next level," Duncan said. "This club deserves to be one of the very best. I have no doubt with the support and enthusiasm that has been shown by all sides of the club, new sponsors, the backroom staff and the players we can achieve amazing things."
The changes underway will ensure that the team is competitive now, is striving for promotion each season, and the talent pipeline is open for future Robins.
Altrincham FC is already one of the most respected men’s football clubs in the region and this plan is designed to create a future for Altrincham FC Women to be an important player in the development of one of the fastest growing sports on the planet.
