Altrincham won the toss in their opening National League fixture of 2025 but soon found themselves behind.

A poor start from the Robins saw a defender lose the ball inside his own box and Solihull capitalise with a tidy finish into the bottom corner 13 minutes into the game.

The next 30 minutes were fairly even, with both sides looking a threat and creating numerous chances, but it was Solihull who proved the more clinical.

A clever piece of trickery from the Moors number 10 led to their centre-forward being put through on goal, and he only needed one touch before finishing at the far post to make it 2-0.

Despite periods of good possession for both teams, the scoreline remained 2-0 at the half-time whistle.

With the second half underway, there was a freshness and real intensity to the game from the Robins.

Despite the increased desire, a simple mistake from the Robins defence once again proved costly, as the ball fell loose to the Solihull centre-forward on the halfway line.

He played a blind pass in behind Alty's right-back for the Solihull outside-left to run on to and slot into the far bottom corner to give his side a 3-0 lead.

Altrincham responded by increasing the pressure on the home defence and creating a few chances that finally led to a breakthrough for the young Robins.

After Kaiden Powell won the ball back on the halfway line, he played it to Jacob Ireland, who did really well to beat the Solihull right-back and deliver a great ball in behind for Vlad Shtyhlian to tap home.

Shortly after, there was real hope for the Robins after great work rate from Shtyhlian, who pressed the goalkeeper, blocked the kick-out and deflected the ball into the net to make it 3-2.

Alty kept at it after this, as they went in search of an equaliser, but it wasn’t to be, and despite their best efforts, they fell just short.
