Honours even as Halifax hit back to force a draw
Match report Oscar Cooper Picture Jonathan Moore
Altrincham 1 FC Halifax Town 1
Altrincham started this National League fixture strongly and deservedly went ahead after being the better side in the opening stages.
A ball was played through into Shtyhlian, and when he lobbed it over the Halifax goalkeeper, it was finished off into the net by Whittle.
After going 1-0 down, Halifax then grew into the game and became more comfortable on the ball, enabling them to create a few half-chances.
As the game continued to even out, Halifax hauled themselves level after Alty's centre-backs failed to deal with a long ball over the top.
It left the Halifax winger in a one-on-one with goalkeeper Noble, and he produced a calm finish to make it 1-1.
After an evenly-matched first half, both sides could reflect on not playing as well as they might and both missing great goalscoring opportunities on multiple occasions.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both number nines missing chances to put their team in front.
As the game wore on, Alty began to play better football, working the ball through the thirds with less turnovers than in the first half, but a second goal continued to prove elusive.
