Alty up for the Cup as late winner sees them through
Altrincham 2 Warrington Town 1
Match report by Alty player Tom Whyte
Altrincham started on the front foot in this FA Youth Cup tie, with Shtyhlian constantly applying pressure with shots from within and outside the box. Warrington had their fair share of chances as well, and it took a fantastic save by Noble to deny them from a free-kick, as the Alty keeper pushed the ball on to the bar.
Later on in this intense game, Warrington won a free-kick outside the box and crossed into a dangerous area, and Alty's struggle to clear their lines led to the visitors going in front.
As the second half started, Alty looked right up for it, constantly applying pressure to the Warrington back line and midfield.
The pressure finally told when Taylor drove into the midfield from the back and played a perfectly timed chipped ball into Howells, who then set it for Shtyhlian to score a vital goal that made it 1-1.
In the last 25 minutes of this entertaining match, Alty created chance after chance, not allowing Warrington any respite.
Raymond picked up the ball in midfield and played it out to the wing, where Wood took on his full-back and fired it into the box for Shtyhlian to stick a leg out and divert it into the net.
It proved a dramatic late winner, and a deserved one, for an Alty side who had put everything into ensuring they progressed to the next round.
