Altrincham 2 Blyth Spartans 0
Altrincham under-18s put in a commanding performance to claim a deserved National League victory over Blyth Spartans in a match that showcased both solid defensive work and clinical finishing.
Right from the kick-off, Altrincham showed intent, and it wasn’t long before they took the lead early in the first half.
The goal came from a well-delivered corner by Harry Watson that caused chaos in the Blyth Spartans penalty area. Joe Weston reacted quickest, meeting the ball with his thigh and directing it into the net to put his side ahead.
Following the opener, Blyth tried to regroup and start applying pressure. They had a few promising attempts on goal, but Alty keeper Max Beddow (pictured) was in inspired form, pulling off a string of brilliant saves and showing excellent reflexes and command of his area to keep the visitors at bay.
His confident handling and timely interventions were crucial in maintaining the clean sheet and frustrating Blyth’s attacking efforts.
The Robins didn’t rest on their laurels and continued to push forward, and that positive approach led to a second goal later in the first half.
Some excellent interplay saw the ball played over the top of the Blyth defence, and Harley Renshaw showed great pace and composure as he beat the goalkeeper and then squared the ball to Jacob Martin, who calmly slotted it home to double the lead.
This goal was a product of sharp teamwork and clinical finishing, putting Altrincham firmly in control heading into the break.
The second half saw a more physical and tactical battle between the two sides. Blyth looked to get back into the game and created a handful of chances, but Alty’s defence remained resolute.
Beddow continued to be a rock between the sticks, making key saves when called upon and organizing his back line effectively.
At the other end, the Robins had opportunities to extend their lead but were unable to find the net again as both teams battled hard for dominance.
Overall, this was a disciplined and well-executed performance from Altrincham's under-18s, with the early goals setting the tone and Beddow’s stand-out goalkeeping ensuring they kept a clean sheet.
The combination of solid defence, effective set-piece delivery and sharp attacking moves made the difference in this encounter, earning Altrincham a deserved 2-0 win over a determined Blyth Spartans side.
