Phil Parkinson has further strengthened his Altrincham squad for the season ahead by signing versatile former Coventry City defender George Burroughs, pending NL and FA approval.
Equally at home at right-back or in central defence, George came through the youth ranks at Coventry and was an integral part of the Sky Blues' successful under-23 side prior to a 15-year stay at the club coming to an end in May.
He was taken on by the Robins as a trialist during the build-up to the new campaign and put through his paces as a second-half substitute in the final two pre-season games, a 2-1 win at Macclesfield and 2-0 home victory over Manchester United under-21s.
The 20-year old, who turns 21 next month, showed up well in both matches and has now been added to the squad as a fully-fledged Alty player who will provide extra options as a highly-capable defender who is also comfortable on the ball.
George, whose older brother Jack is a midfielder in Coventry's first-team squad, made his mark for the Sky Blues' under-23 side, the highlight coming in May last year when he scored the decisive third goal in their 3-2 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate in the Professional Development League 2 final.
A warm welcome to The J.Davidson Stadium, George, and everyone at the club would like to wish you every success in Alty colours.
