Altrincham enter the Cheshire Senior Cup this week as we face Vauxhall Motors at the J.Davidson Stadium in our first cup game of the season on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
Setting the Scene
The Robins will be looking to continue their impressive form from the Vanarama
National League into our first Cheshire Senior Cup match of the season.
With wins over Dagenham & Redbridge and Tamworth, Altrincham have won
consecutive matches for the first time in the 2024/25 campaign.
The most recent victory, at The Lamb Ground against Tamworth, came thanks to
second-half goals from Alex Newby and Justin Amaluzor. A late red card for Tom Crawford slightly opened the door for Tamworth to mount a comeback, but
Altrincham held on to win 2-1 and claim all three points.
Tuesday opponents, Vauxhall Motors, are also in fine form heading into the Cheshire Senior Cup clash. Having won five of their previous six league games, they are top of the Northern Premier League West with 18 points from their opening nine games.
The thoughts of Ross Speight
Ross Speight will once again be in charge for our Cheshire Senior Cup ties this season, aided by Ethan Ross and reserve team manager Danny Jarrett.
“It's going to be a tough game against a really good opponent who are flying high in the NPL West. We've done our homework the same way as we would with any of our National League opposition. We set our standards high and we always give our opponents the respect they deserve.
"I'm really looking forward to the game as we've got some really good players in the squad, including some of our academy lads. It's an important game for everyone involved, we want to play well and we want to progress in the competition."
Last season in the Cheshire Senior Cup
January 2024 – Altrincham enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals of last season’s
Cheshire Senior Cup before being beaten by the eventual winners of the
competition, Hyde United.
A 4-2 victory on penalties against 1874 Northwich allowed Alty to progress through the first round, a dominant victory against Stalybridge Celtic followed to set up the tie with Hyde United, but Altrincham were on the end of a 2-0 defeat in the quarter-finals, ending our run in the competition.
