Maidenhead heading our way - here's your full match preview

Joe Ward reports
Alty make a swift return to Vanarama National League action, weather permitting, when Maidenhead United travel to The J.Davidson Stadium on Tuesday evening (7.45 kick-off).

Connor Jennings underlined why the boss extended his loan with Alty towards the end of last week with a vital goal in a highly-impressive 3-2 win at Maidstone United on Saturday. The victory lengthened the Robins' unbeaten run to five games and lifted the team to 14th in the league table, just four points off the play-offs.

However, manager Phil Parkinson will have to swiftly turn his side's attention towards Maidenhead on Tuesday night in our final league clash before Christmas. Alty will be hoping to right the wrong of the earlier away fixture against the Magpies, when we lost 2-0 at York Road.

The visitors head into Tuesday’s game off the back of an enthralling encounter against league leaders Notts County. Despite the best efforts of Maidenhead, County came out 4-3 winners, extending their opponents' difficult run of form.

Manager’s Views
Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson gave his reaction to the 3-2 victory at Maidstone in an interview shortly after the final whistle.

About The Opposition
Maidenhead finished 17th in the National League last season, just four points behind Alty. The Magpies re-appointed their current manager, Alan Devonshire, in 2015 after he previously managed the club for several years between 1996 and 2003. At the time of the re-appointment, Maidenhead were competing in the National League South. However, after an impressive turnaround, the club were promoted to the National League in 2016-17, where they have remained ever since.

So far this season, the Berkshire side have managed expectations reasonably well and currently sit just one point behind the Robins in 16th place. However, following a defeat to Notts County on Saturday, they head into Tuesday’s fixture without a win in three games.

It’s likely to be a tough game for Devonshire’s side as Altrincham hope to capitalise on an excellent recent run of form. The Robins will be looking to redress our away fixture from earlier this season when Maidenhead handed Alty our first defeat of the campaign.

Without the injured Matt Gould and the unresolved contract issue of Ollie Byrne, the Robins drafted Dermot Mee on loan from Manchester United in that game. However, the Magpies' main attacking threat of Emile Acquah, who scored two goals in his last game, will have to contend with a much more settled Alty backline that seems to strengthen week by week.

As the final league fixture before Christmas, Tuesday’s clash is building up to be an exciting prospect as both sides will look to edge their way towards the play-off positions. So why not head down to The J.Davidson Stadium and cheer on the lads as we look to go unbeaten in six consecutive games.
