Best foot forward as change of system sparks five-goal spree!
Altrincham Youth 5 Hyde United U-18s 1
Report by Alty player Oliwier Fiedor
Altrincham drew on a mixture of U-16s, U-17s and U-18s to take on Hyde United in the North West Youth Alliance at Manchester Health Academy on Sunday.
The Alty youngsters started the game playing a mid-block, being very compact in the middle of the park. Due to this, the Alty boys were very solid defensively, making it difficult for the opposition to break them down.
However, Altrincham also allowed the opposition to have more of the ball, and they made the most of it as they punished the Robins for switching off momentarily by scoring a well-worked goal.
Sensing a change of approach was needed, Alty switched up towards the end of the half and decided to press higher up the pitch.
This led to an instant impact, with chances created and an equaliser materialising from Charley Jarrald after Fiedor switched the play to Cata, who beat his man and delivered the telling pass.
A second goal followed before half-time, as Cata once again beat his man and slotted it in near the front post.
In the second half, Altrincham started much more brightly, dominating possession and creating chances, and, before long, Cata got his brace after a good spell of possession, finishing in the top corner .
Alty continued to apply pressure on the opposition, and it yielded a fourth goal when Jarrald headed home from a Fiedor corner.
The Alty boys were in no mood to take their foot off the pedal, and they made it five when Peter Arogun finished off a great run in behind by beating the keeper in a one-on-one.
