Alty's message to Shelter - #we're with you!
Altrincham will demonstrate their support for the latest campaign to highlight homelessness by wearing their away strip for the Vanarama National League fixture with FC Halifax Town at The J.Davidson Stadium on Boxing Day.
The National League recently announced they were again backing Shelter’s #NoHomeKit campaign for this year’s festive fixtures by urging home teams to forego their usual kit and wear away colours instead.
It is a gesture aimed at raising awareness of the plight of the homeless in this country, and Alty were more than happy to throw their weight behind it by agreeing to switch to their blue away kit against Halifax on Monday (kick-off 3pm).
Despite Covid-related postponements, last year's inaugural campaign was a huge success, with hundreds of clubs getting involved and helping to generate over £500,000 for the cause.
With living costs rising steeply and impacting on homelessness, Shelter are hoping to exceed that figure this year, and the National League believe clubs can help them achieve their aim by turning the spotlight on the problem.
“We are delighted to be working with Shelter once again on their #NoHomeKit campaign,” said National League general manager Mark Ives. “We had an amazing response last year from the campaign and getting involved again was an easy decision.
“The football community know more than anyone how important the feeling of home is. Every 90 minutes, 25 households are made homeless. That is something we simply cannot ignore.
“For clubs who wish to take part, we are asking them to swap their home kit for their away or third kits for a fixture over the festive period to raise awareness of the devastating impact the housing emergency is having on lives across the country.”
