Altrincham have earned a good point on the road at Wealdstone as Phil Parkinson and Stuart Maynard’s teams played out a goalless draw at The Vale.

Earned is the certainly word to describe this performance as the lads put in quite the shift to claim a deserved point.

The Robins were dealt yet another injury blow as Matty Kosylo was ruled out meaning talented youngster Tom Jones was named on the bench. The lack of attacking options on the bench however would ultimately limit us as the game wore on.

It was a relatively cagey opening between the two teams but Alty had a bright spell of pressure where they earned a couple of corners and then shortly after Dior Angus’ long range effort forced a save from the Wealdstone goalkeeper Jed Ward.

The hosts had a couple of half chances themselves with two efforts that were blazed over the bar and it was the Stuart Maynard’s side that edged possession in the opening half hour.

Ten minutes before the break Tahvon Campbell gave a couple of warnings signs to the Alty rearguard. He first had an effort which forced a good save out of Ethan Ross and shortly after, had a header in the six-yard box which went narrowly over.

At this point, the game was showing signs of opening up as Dior Angus won possession in the Wealdstone box but his effort on goal was blocked by the desperate home defenders.

The play was right up the other end shortly after and it was Tahvon Campbell once again who fired over the bar from the edge of the area.

That was the last bit of action for the Wealdstone striker who was clearly struggling and he was replaced by Sean Adarkwa up front.

That lengthy stoppage and then another for Lewis Baines shortly before the break disrupted the flow of the game and the half-time whistle was blown with little more action of any note.

It was the Stones who started the second half brightly and they enjoyed an early spell of pressure.

A driven cross by Allarakhia just evaded the stretched Adarkwa and moments later, Abdulmalik’s effort from range stung the palms of Ethan Ross who cleared the danger.

Just after the hour mark, Justin Donawa injected some pace into the Alty attack and his driving run came to an end as he was brought down by Barker. The free-kick from 25-yards had Chris Conn-Clarke stood over it and while the number ten got his curling effort on target, the Wealdstone keeper saved comfortably.

On 75 minutes, the Robins’ defenders had to be on their toes to stop another Wealdstone attack. The ball came across from the left to Smith just inside the box and the pressure from the lunging Eddy Jones and a superb block from Lewis Baines denied the hosts.

Wealdstone were having the greater possession as the game edged towards its conclusion but Alty remained a threat on the counter.

Justin Amaluzor and Chris Conn-Clarke had various breaks forward but the end product was not quite there as fatigue was clearly setting in.

Credit to the team from a defensive perspective however and the defence and Ethan Ross in goal deserve a special mention for an outstanding display as the game petered out into a goalless draw.

An excellent point on the road and in the circumstances with the team selection being decimated by injuries, a very welcome outcome for the Robins.

Focus now turns to back-to-back home matches at The J.Davidson Stadium as we welcome Hartlepool on Tuesday and then Ebbsfleet on Saturday.
