Tough Test of Salford This Sunday

Unbeaten Salford City Lionesses are up next for Daryll Abrahams' side in the North West Women's Regional League, Division One Central at Moor Lane on Sunday (2pm kick-off)

Having collected 10 points from the opening five games, the game will undoubtedly provide a good benchmark to assess where the squad is at.

Last Time Out

Our last league encounter ended in a 2-2 draw at Crilly Park, with Elise Jones and Brogan Walsh on the scoresheet.

We took on Runcorn Linnets Ladies in a friendly last Sunday, which also finished 2-2. Tia Unwin and Ashley Jones gave us a two-goal advantage with well-taken finishes, but Linnets mounted a comeback in the final 10 minutes.

Hear It From Duncan Jones

"The first thing is we've got to look at the opponent, it's almost like playing Manchester City.

"You've got players that have come laterally and down from other divisions because they're being paid to do so. You've got Jill Scott as their advisor for women's football, who is probably the most famous women's footballer in the UK.

"If you put all of that together, it's a good draw for a lot of good players.

"What we've got to do is what we've been working on in training this week in working on the stuff that doesn't require any talent. It's the discipline, it's the commitment, it's the hard work. If we do that, and we keep our composure and discipline, they're going to have a tough time with us because we always play up to our opponents."

Salford City Lionesses

A team with high investment and ambition for step six, Salford have only dropped points once in their opening five games, drawing 1-1 with Wythenshawe Town Women.

They started like a train with comprehensive victories, most notably 16-0 over Stockport County Women Development. However, goals have somewhat dried up recently and it's taken late goals to claim points against Wythenshawe and Wigan Athletic Ladies.

Despite exiting the Women's FA Cup to Norton and Stockton Ancients at the Third Qualifying Round, it has been an excellent start to the campaign for Salford.

AIG Stadium

The fixture will be played at Salford City's AIG Stadium, with tickets available to purchase here or on the gate.

There will be no radio commentary and limited social media coverage of the game, so the only way to keep up with the action is to get down to the Moor Lane.

Elite u18s

The young Robins are also back in action, beginning a string of three consecutive games at Partington Sports Village. Winsford Town u18s are the visitors for a 2pm kick-off.

Come On You Robins!!!
