Robins return on Tuesday with a maiden voyage to Glanford Park

By Joe Ward

The Robins are back in Vanarama National League action on Tuesday evening with a clash against Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park (7:45pm kick-off).

Alty will be looking for a response this week following a 4-0 defeat against Wealdstone at Grosvenor Vale on Saturday, with Micah Obiero (2), Corie Andrews and Alex Dyer on the scoresheet for the Stones.

Phil Parkinson’s men are currently 19 points ahead of Tuesday’s hosts and sit 12th in the league.

A win for the Robins could see us move level on points with Wealdstone, who have a game in hand on us, depending on how they fare at home to Maidstone United on the same night.

Manager’s Views

Phil Parkinson spoke with Laurence Howarth after our defeat to Wealdstone, previewing Tuesday’s fixture and the remainder of the season.

“It’s been the same all season - if you lose a game, you want to win as soon as you can, so I won’t be putting all or nothing on the next result. But if we want to do anything from now until the end of the term, we’ve got to bounce back.

“You look at the games we’ve got left, the majority of them are against teams that are fighting for their lives, so we have to battle to earn the right to play. If you don’t prioritise that as a starting point, you can’t compete.”

About The Opposition

Scunthorpe currently sit 23rd in the table after 35 games, winning six, drawing nine and losing 20 so far.

The Iron fell to defeat at the weekend as they lost 1-0 at home to a 10-man Eastleigh side following a goal from Danny Whitehall, who converted from the spot in the 22nd minute.

Jacob Butterfield captains the side, whilst also topping their goalscoring chart of players still at the club, with four goals in all competitions.

Our last meeting against Scunthorpe came in September as Ryan Colclough salvaged a point for Alty late on following two second-half goals from Butterfield and Joe Nutall.

That was after Elliot Osborne put the Robins ahead seconds before the half-time whistle at The J.Davidson Stadium.

Tuesday will be Altrincham’s first visit to Glanford Park and Phil Parkinson will be aiming for a win as we hope to return to winning ways in the National League.
