Preview | Aldershot Town (a)

Altrincham travel to Hampshire to face Aldershot at The EBB Stadium as we
look to continue our impressive form in the Vanarama National League on
Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Setting the Scene
Prior to the defeat against Manchester United PL2 on Tuesday, Alty looked to
be rekindling their attacking prowess which made the team so difficult to contend
with on our way to a fourth-place finish last season.
Our previous fixture in the Vanarama National League was a 2-0 victory over
Southend United, thanks to Joe Nuttall’s first goal for Altrincham and Alex Newby’s sixth league goal of the season. With ten goals in the last three league games, the attacking struggles that haunted the Robins at the beginning of the campaign seem long forgotten.
A five-game spell without defeat has left us just two points behind the play-off places in 10th place. Our next opponents sit in 18th place, earning 19 points from the first 18 matches of their season.
After narrowly missing out on a spot in the play-offs on the final day of the 2023/24
National League season, Aldershot would have wanted to go one step further this
year and push into the division’s top seven places.
Yet, almost halfway into the season, they find themselves just one point above the relegation zone. They have, however, earned draws against the league’s top two (Forest Green and York) and beaten two sides currently occupying a playoff position (Oldham and Halifax), and are not a side Altrincham can afford to take lightly.
The Gaffer
“We’ve been on the receiving end of a result (against Man Utd u21s) – it feels like a punch in the mouth after the run of form we’ve been in, I certainly didn’t expect that, the players won’t have expected that, and maybe that’s what we needed going into the weekend.
“We won’t get too carried away with ourselves, because that brings you right back
down to earth – there’s got to be a reaction from that.”
Last time against Aldershot Town
February 2024 – The last meeting between Aldershot and Altrincham was broadcast live on TNT Sports, with the Shots picking up the three points on offer.
Two Aldershot goals in quick succession from Tyler Frost and Lorent Tolaj just before half-time helped Aldershot on their way to a 2-0 victory.
