Spirited Alty narrowly beaten at Yeovil
Yeovil Town 1 Altrincham 0
The Robins came up just short on the road against Yeovil Town in the Enterprise National League despite a spirited second half display down in Somerset
Alty started the game on the front foot, forcing home keeper Jed Ward into two saves within the first minute. The pressure continued for the opening 10 minutes, with a number of corners and free kicks threatening the Yeovil goal.
The home side weathered the initial storm, however, and for much of the rest of the half were on the front foot.
Andrew Oluwabori hit Luke Hutchinson's bar and also forced the Bolton loanee into a smart stop, before his 32nd minute cross from the right was headed home by Morgan Williams for the opening goal of the game.
The Glovers creating the opening two chances at the start of the second half, as well. Luckily for Alty, Hutchinson was at his best to make a great save, before the rebound sent goalward was spectacularly cleared off the line by Lewis Banks.
Slowly, the Robins began to work themselves back into the game and Yeovil found themselves pegged back inside their own half.
Matty Kosylo saw a cross just miss Charlie Kirk, who in turn shot over a minute later. Tom Crawford also had an effort blocked before an unmarked Banks forced Ward into a big save off a short corner routine.
There were to be two more, even better chances, to come for Alty in the final 15 minutes. Jimmy Knowles saw a skimming effort from 20 yards whistle just wide of the post, before the forward turned provider with a cross that Dan Sassi headed agonisingly wide from 10 yards.
One final opportunity, deep in injury time, almost fell at the feet of Banks, but a last ditch challenge maintained the home side's advantage and 30 seconds later had secured Yeovil the three points.
