Get down to Nantwich on Sunday
Altrincham FC Women are aiming to win their first ever trophy on Sunday (3pm) when we take on Witton Albion in The Cheshire Women’s and Youth League Challenge Cup Final at Nantwich Town FC’s Swansway Stadium.
With the women’s team now under the umbrella of the football club, alongside the men’s first team, reserve team and academy, we want to encourage as many Alty fans as possible to attend what could be the most significant game in the history of Altrincham FC Women.
The closest that the women’s team have come to winning silverware, was in the same competition, when facing Crewe Alexandra in the 2014 Final.
Despite a very brave performance, The Alex scored the only goal of the final in extra-time and look out for an article on this game to be posted in the build-up to Sunday’s massive game.
Duncan Jones (Head of Women’s Football and interim manager) is hoping that the Altrincham FC Women Class of 25, can go one better on Sunday against a Witton Albion team that has run away with the Cheshire Women’s and Youth Football League - Championship West, dropping just 2 points all season and gaining promotion to The Premier Division, in which The Robins finished 3rd in the league season recently completed.
How they reached the final
Altrincham
- First Round, Jan 26th Stockport County Development 2 Altrincham 5
- Second Round, Feb 9th Altrincham 6 Winsford Town 0
- Quarter Final, March 23rd Altrincham 5 Congleton Town 2
- Semi-Final, April 13th Nantwich Town 2 Altrincham 3
Victory at Nantwich Town, who did a league double over Alty and had been crowned Champions of The Premier Division just a week earlier, without dropping a point at The Swansway Stadium, was a landmark achievement for a team that had lost three of its first four fixtures of the season, but showed such steady improvement from that point, that belief and confidence was high that the Dabbers could be beaten, and so it proved.
Witton Albion
- First Round, Jan 26th Warrington Rylands 0 Witton Albion 7
- Second Round, February 23rd Witton Albion 2 Newton-le-Willows 0
- Quarter Final, March 23rd Witton Albion 2 AFC Crewe 1
- Semi-Final, April 23rd Witton Albion 2 Vauxhall Motors 0
The standout result for Witton was the quarter-final win over AFC Crewe, who finished as runners-up in The Premier Division between champions, Nantwich & Alty in 3rd.
