Altrincham v Boreham Wood Match Preview

By Joe Ward

Alty are back at The J.Davidson Stadium on Saturday when we face Boreham Wood in the Vanarama National League (3pm kick-off).

The Robins will be looking to bounce back following Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Chesterfield which ended our incredible 10-game unbeaten run.

Despite the disappointing result, manager Phil Parkinson can take plenty of positives from our last game, particularly in the first half, when we threatened to take the lead on several occasions.

Nevertheless, Chesterfield landed the final blow, leaving the travelling Alty fans heartbroken following an 88th minute goal from Ashley Palmer, sending us home empty-handed.

On paper, the visitors come into Saturday's clash in poor form, without a win in their last five games. However, after drawing 1-1 with Notts County in their last league game, Boreham Wood will surely be looking to build on such an encouraging result when they travel to The J.Davidson Stadium this weekend.

Manager’s Views

Altrincham Manager Phil Parkinson spoke with Rob Dawley following Alty’s 1-0 defeat against Chesterfield on Tuesday evening.

About The Opposition

The Wood currently sit in 12th place, having won just two of their last 13 league games.

Despite having one of the worst home records in the league this season, Boreham Wood have been more than impressive away from home, boasting the sixth best away record, picking up 19 points from 13 games.

Manager Luke Garrard has been busy attempting to rectify the visitors recent run of form, introducing several defensive reinforcements over the last month or so.

Full-back Cameron Coxe, who joined on loan from Colchester United last October, recently signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club. Additionally, defender Chris Bush signed an 18-month contract, following his departure from Bromley, and 21-year-old defender David Agbontohoma arrived at Meadow Park on a short-term loan from League One side Sheffield Wednesday just three weeks ago.

Both Coxe and Agbontohoma featured in the Wood’s last game as they were ejected from the FA Cup third round following a 1-0 loss to Accrington Stanley in extra time.

Alty and Boreham Wood last met earlier this season in a close encounter at Meadow Park. Despite Alty's Arron Bennett opening the scoring that day, the hosts came back to equalise through the club's top scorer this season Lee Ndlovu.

However, with the Robins hungry to return to winning ways, this Saturday promises to be a compelling match-up.
