SANDBACH UNITED 0-4 ALTRINCHAM
Goodson 17', Bennett 47', 65' (Pen), Hulme 78'
A comprehensive display from Alty this evening has seen the Robins beat Sandbach United to progress to the next round of the Cheshire Senior Cup. Two goals by Aaron Bennett after a thunderbolt from Zak Goodson, and capped off with a goal by skipper Jordan Hulme combined to see Alty ease past the home side and it was a deserved victory for Phil Parkinson’s men.
Having named a side with a blend of experience and youth, Alty were on top for the vast majority of the match, and it showed throughout. There were plenty of positives and impressive performances in the Alty ranks and some valuable minutes for the likes of Aidy Roxburgh and Zak Goodson who are fit again after knocks.
A good workout, a good turnout, and Alty move into the next round!
Full-time!
86' Joe Cooney comes on for Ben Pringle
Good minutes for Aidy Roxburgh and Zak Goodson tonight after injury with both impressing too.
A special mention for Harlan Rodgers-Morris and Owen German who have done exceptionally well in midfield tonight.
78' Jordan Hulme back heels a fourth through the keeper's legs after tremendous play by Aidy Roxburgh down the right
76' Aaron Bennett is subbed off with Jayden Matthew coming on. A superb performance by Benno!
73' More chances created for Alty and the latest effort is saved on the line
69' Injury to Liam Brockbank....seemingly nothing serious though thankfully and he is fit to resume
66' Dermot Mee is on for Matty Gould
65' GOAL and a red card for the Sandbach defender who saves the ball on the line to deny Aaron Bennett a second.....but only momentarily as Bennett steps up and converts the spot kick.
52' Alty have grabbed control of this game now and look determined to kill the match off.
47' GOAL! Aaron Bennett is put clean through on goal by Ben Pringle and he makes no mistake in doubling Alty's advantage.
46' The second half is underway. Josh Jordan is on for Jack Kingdon in central defence
HT: A well deserved lead for Alty thanks to a stunning striker by Zak Goodson. The Robins have had other chances and they will be hoping to extend their lead in the second half to thwart any hopes Sandbach have of getting back into this game.
41' After some positive play from the hosts, Alty break forward with a great switch of play by Bennett, and after good work by Jordan Hulme, the attack ends in the ball coming off a Sandback defender and on to the woodwork.
34' More good play from Alty and we are putting the Sandbach defence under plenty of pressure. Goodson continues to be a major threat, while it is Liam Brockbank who misses the latest chance.
28' Zak Goodson almost has his second but after Ben Pringle finds him once again from the left, the ball is caught under his feet somewhat and he cannot quite get the power on this one.
25' Matty Gould is called into action as Sandbach get a header on goal but our New Zealand international collects comfortably.
23' A jinking run by Aaron Bennett sees him go past four players and the on-loan Preston man is looking sharp tonight. His resulting effort flies over the bar.
21' A good response from Sandbach with Stanley Tatters conducting the play in the middle.
17' GOAL! Zak Goodson has scored a thunderbolt with a glorious left-footed effort past the Sandbach keeper.
15' Aidy Roxburgh is proving a threat as he raids down the right wing once again....remeniscent of what he showed in pre-season before his injury.
10' A good start to this game with the hosts showing they will be no pushovers but the greater quality coming from Alty thus far.
7' Corner for Alty but Pringle's cross is well defended
A bright start for the Robins with Aaron Bennett looking lively and at the heart of some of our best play.
Alty get us underway!
We are very close to kick off now!
Director of Football, Rob Esteva, provided an update on football matters earlier today including an injury update on several players including Zak Goodson. The talented forward, recently signed from Ilkeston, had a minor calf problem that has kept him out for a few weeks but he gets a start tonight and will be eager to impress.
Barring any setbacks, Egli Kaja is not too far away now, Lewis Baines is a couple of weeks, as is Isaac Marriott whose return will provide a major boost also.
The majority of those that played against Dorking on Saturday have been held out this evening ahead of the FA Cup clash with Gateshead this weekend.
A nice blend between some first teamers and a sprinkling of academy and reserve talents for Alty tonight. Chris Conn-Clarke and Dan Malone are with their parent clubs to get some game time this midweek in addition.
Sandbach go with: Merner, Chapman, Buckley-Benbow, Cope, Roberts, Jones, West, Tatters, Barnes, Hatton, Cain
Bench: Bamba, Burgess, Klien-Davies, Barton, Brookes
Alty line up with: Gould; Roxburgh, Jones, Kingdon, Brockbank; Rodgers-Morris, German, Pringle; Goodson, Hulme, Bennett
Subs: Bailey, Cooney, Matthew, Jordan, Mee
